Ash Grove Variations

Funding would be $100

In Regina, Saskatchewan music in churches is very different than what I am used to in Northern California. In Northern California, one of my very first paid jobs was an Easter service in the Sunset District of San Francisco. Brass players all work on Easter Sunday. I have been paid as high as $225 for playing at church on Easter.

One of my most memorable church services of all time was for an Easter service in Sacramento. For almost an hour it seemed, there was no music, then the people say "He is Risen" the the loud organ with high horn comes in like a blast from the sun; it was amazing; . . . . . . . hair raising.

In Regina, Saskatchewan since the passing of my friend Jack Partridge, I have not been asked to play at church for pay. Jack was good at hiring me a couple times a year. Church members attend church when a special soloist is hired. it brings people out.

This how I can help: I offer a new varation of my Opus 212 Ash Grove Variation that I premiered at Westminster United Church in Regina June 2014. I have a few more variations to write, so I am asking for $100 to write a new ash grove variation and come and play it with your chruch organist. I iwll do my best to publicize the chruch performance
